What is the most important information I should know about Acumen?
- Acumen solution is for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, and other mucous membranes. If you get Acumen solution in your eyes, immediately wash them out with cool tap water.
- Talk with your doctor before you use any other medicines or cleansers on your skin.
- Once you begin using Acumen solution, it may take 3 to 8 weeks before you begin to see improvement.
- If severe diarrhea or stomach pain or cramping develops during treatment or within several months after treatment with Acumen solution, check with your doctor or pharmacist right away. Do not treat it without first checking with your doctor.
- Be sure to use Acumen solution for the full course of treatment. If you do not, the medicine may not clear up your infection completely. The bacteria could also become less sensitive to this or other medicines. This could make the infection harder to treat in the future.
- Long-term or repeated use of Acumen solution may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat this.
- Acumen solution is flammable. Do not store or use near an open flame or while smoking.
- Acumen solution should be used with extreme caution in CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Acumen solution while you are pregnant. Acumen solution is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Acumen solution, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
Acumen contraindications
You should not take Acumen if you are allergic to it, or if you are also using cisapride (Propulsid), dihydroergotamine (D.H.E. 45, Migranal), ergotamine (Ergomar, Cafergot, Migergot), or pimozide (Orap). Acumen may interact with these medicines and could cause dangerous or life-threatening heart rhythm disorders.
Before you take Acumen, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, myasthenia gravis, a heart rhythm disorder, a history of Long QT syndrome, or low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood.
Take this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics. Acumen will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.
Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, stop taking Acumen and call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicine unless your doctor tells you to.
